WWE Unforgiven 2008 Predictions

Just another month, just another show. Even WWE must be thinking that way seeing as how we get the lame scramble match concept not once… not twice… but THREE times in one evening! This PPV hinges on HBK/Jericho, IMO, but who knows how that’ll even play out now?

As always, Bold is my predicted winner and the order of the matches is how I would book it from top to bottom. And away we go…

Unsanctioned Match

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho

Michaels, triceps injury and all, is still planning on wrestling this Sunday. Given his injury, I think this feud will continue. If he’s going to be out for any amount of time (and he is), whether it’s four weeks or six months, the smart thing to do is give Jericho the win here. Or least let him come out as the dominant one and just beat Michaels half to death as he did the last time they fought. Technically, this match may be a disappointment considering HBK’s injury and it also may not be epic in terms of match length, but it should still be another great step for this feud.

I would love to see Jericho to actually get a pin here, but a DQ on Jericho for some type of heinous act would not be unwelcome either.

World Heavyweight Championship Scramble Match

CM Punk (c) vs. Batista vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Kane vs. John Bradshaw Layfield

The RAW scramble match is, of course, the one with the most the star power. JBL is such a loser at this point though. There is no reason for him to even be a contender after three clean losses to Punk. Out of the all the participants here, I think there are only two options for winners: Punk or Batista. A Batista win could continue planting the seeds for a turn and another go-round with Cena, but if Batista loses again, it could also continue his title frustrations and still lead to the heel turn that I think should happen.

Since the last pinfall once the 20 minute time-limit expires is the only one that counts, I expect Punk to be beaten like a ragdoll all throughout, taking everyone’s finisher and getting pinned numerous time but I imagine they’ll continue his weird “he shouldn’t be champ” push by having him backdoor his way into the final pinfall allowing us to see an Orton/Punk title feud (squash?).

WWE Championship Scramble Match

Triple H (c) vs. Jeff Hardy vs. MVP vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. The Brian Kendrick

Are people actually believing Kendrick has a chance? Wow. That’s just crazy talk. I’m surprised he’s even in this, but that’s what happens when you don’t have a gameplan for a main event feud– you just put a bunch of random guys together for a title match and end up with contenders like these. Some people even think MVP will take it, but I think that’s silly talk as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised if HHH scores the ONLY pinfall here at some point during the match, but regardless, he’s retaining because there’s no one else on the Smackdown roster, outside of Undertaker, that I feel WWE would feel comfortable with putting the belt on. That’s not to say I wouldn’t love to see ANY of these guys given the chance, even if just a few weeks, but Jeff is gonna have to prove himself some more and the rest are so low on the totem pole that I think they would actually hurt the title more than it would help them.

Khali will probably interfere against HHH again and it will probably also backfire (again). HHH/Khali II at Cyber Sunday!!!

ECW Championship Scramble Match

Mark Henry (c) vs. Matt Hardy vs. Finlay vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. The Miz

This should be the first scramble match to go on, and to give that feeling of anyone can truly win and that the champ is mostly likely *not* going to be that person, I think we’ll see a title change here. Common sense says Matt Hardy takes it, but it’s ECW, they gave Chavo & Morrison the belt for pete’s sake.

World Tag Team Championship Match

Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase (c) vs. Cryme Tyme

C’mon… Don’t stop’em now. We need Evolution 2.0!

Divas Championship Match

Michelle McCool (c) vs. Maryse

Undertaker’s Girlfriend wins and Maryse is a horrible wrestler. That is all.

If any matches are added before airtime, I’ll be sure to add my picks for those too! All told, this may be a technically decent (if not noteworthy) PPV what with HBK/Jericho and the RAW & Smackdown scrambles. The rest is just TV filler.

    Monte Says:

Is this Michelle McCool chick really ‘Taker’s girl?

What about the chick whose name is on his throat?!?

    Yes.

“SARA” no longer appears on ‘taker’s throat. =)
