Captain Planet and The Planeteers… The Power Is YOURS!

9 Feb

A co-worker and myself were talking about this show just last week and funny enough, I was flipping through an old comic and came across this ad, so I had to scan it in. When it was first released, I thought Captain Planet was a legit comic book super-hero and not some lame Ted Turner creation. In those innocent years, way before Wikipedia and thousands of comic book resource sites, I was thinking Captain Planet was some old school Marvel character not unlike Captain America. Maybe I got confused because Marvel did actually publish a Captain Planet serious alongside the cartoon. Oh well, I guess the mullet should’ve tipped me off.

This cartoon sucked, in my opinion. While, the theme song has stuck in my head after all these years, I just could not get into the show. It just seemed to goody-two-shoes for me. Wheeler was the only character who kept it real and I could relate to because he was an egotistical hot-headed jerk.

I did own some Captain Planet figures though. =D I remember going to K-Mart with my grandma and they were having a penny sale on Captain Planet figures, buy one get one for a cent. Never ones to pass up a deal, my grandma and I decided it was the right time for me to own some Captain Planet figures, so I picked up the good Captain himself and Duke Nukem (no relation to THIS Duke Nukem).
