WWE Backlash 2009 Predictions

Standard

Bold is my predicted winner.

World Heavyweight Championship (Last Man Standing Match)
John Cena (c) vs. Edge

Hm. That match that should have taken place at WrestleMania. These guys have great chemistry together and their promo on Smackdown a few weeks ago was gold. I have no doubt this is going to be a very entertaining match and that Edge will bring a title home to Smackdown.

…if CM Punk doesn’t cash in. Cashing in at the end of (during?) a last man standing match would be a perfect time to do it. >=)

WWE Championship
Triple H (c), Batista & Shane McMahon vs. Randy Orton & The Legacy

WWE may not consider TNA to be competition, but they don’t mind ripping off their main events do they? Let me get this straight… Orton & HHH had a one-on-one match *after* their WrestleMania match, but it was non-title because they’re saving the title rematch for a six-man tag? How stupid. Once again, HHH is involved in the lamest and most boring company-dominating angles possibly. This feud is a dud. It killed the moment Legacy & Orton had and it has exposed HHH to the fans, who is getting a smaller reaction by the week. Congrats. Enjoy The HHH Show featuring Batista, Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels and John Cena, folks. Smackdown is the A-show again.

I’m not even gonna both with the TNA stipulations of this match, but I think WWE is a least a bit smart enough to let Orton take the belt here. Of course, it’s all set up in a way so that it won’t look like a legit win. But then HHH knows all about that, doesn’t he?

ECW Championship
Jack Swagger (c) vs. Christian

I’ve been a fan of Swagger from the get-go and he’s done well as ECW champ, though I wish he would’ve been pushed harder on his own show. It’s really a toss-up on who is winning this one. Christian gets a positive reaction from fans no matter what, but Swagger had a surprisingly good match against Cena on RAW recently.

Eh. I’ll go with Christian so we can have one “feel good” title win.

“I Quit” Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy

Yeah, yeah… Matt’s been pushed over Jeff because of the contract situation. If you believe internet reports, that is. Getting two fluke wins in a row is hardly a “push”. Well, anyway, I think here is where we see young Jeffrey finally get closure with a clear cut win over his older brother.

Doesn’t matter, RAW was a lateral move for Matt (who instead of being push up the card will end up feuding with MVP again) and Jeff will continue to spin his wheels on Smackdown, though at least there are some possibilites for great matches over there.

Chris Jericho vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat

Wow. It’s so awesome to type that. Honestly, I’m looking forward to this match the most. Can Steamboat deliver? I have no clue, but I wanna find out. He did fine at WM and even better on RAW, hopefully he’s been training hard.

There’s no shame in having the 50-something legend putting up a great showing but still losing to the younger active competitor. Hopefully, WWE keeps this in mind.

CM Punk vs. Kane

Kane is basically a jobber these days. Punk has a better window of opportunity on Smackdown. Besides, why else would this match be randomly thrown on the show if not for Punk to show up later in the night..?

Santina on Khali Kiss Cam

Who cares. Three brands of wrestlers and they’re putting Khali Kiss Cam on PPV? A show where you have to PAY to watch?
