It’s been eight days since my last post. Let’s talk about my Green Lantern wallet.

If you read the title of my post, it should come as no surprise to you that I have not posted in eight days. As Dusty Rhodes might say, “Ah’m at a croth road, eef you weel”. I’ve lost my drive, my passion and my inspiration for keeping this blog ’80s themed. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the ’80s and there’s no other decade I’d rather live in but I can only do so many food, toy, cartoon and commercial posts without getting bored. There’s thousands of blogs just like this out there and we all keep running in circles talking about the same old (literally!) stuff.

I think maybe I got burned out last year doing so many Halloween and Christmas posts. The funny thing is, as I’ve slacked off on posting this year, my views keep rising each month. March 2010 was my second highest month for views. December 2009 is the tops by far though. I had an obscene amount of visits then that I won’t be touching on a regular basis anytime soon.

Besides, I’m having a heckuva time writing for my music blog Metal Excess. That’s really where I’ve been devoting my time. I’ve got big things poppin’ and little things stoppin’ over there. Of course, just as sure as my posting frequency at The Metal Misfit has fallen, I can pick it up again at any moment’s notice and who knows? Tomorrow may kick off a 17 day posting binge so keep me in your thoughts, prayers and Google Readers.

Here’s the real meat of this post though, a few weeks back, I bought a new wallet. Why? Because I NEEDED a new wallet. My then current “billfold” was a ratty American Eagle two-fold leather wallet that I must have owned since 2003. Yeah, it was time to let it go. It had become paper thin and was the victim of many washes in the laundry.

So I stop into Hot Topic, a place I don’t normally go into though even though I do happen to like all the nifty retro stuff they carry. Too bad it’s just so expensive. I came across two TRI-FOLD wallets that interested me: Superman and Green Lantern. The Superman wallet was pretty cool but it was black and had the red “S” symbol and that was it. So I guess it was really more of a Superboy wallet. It was kinda plain and if it had the traditional red, blue and yellow Superman colors, I probably would have taken that one. Instead, I went for…

THIS!

The Green Lantern wallet! It’s even got the nifty old school 1960s/1970s Green Lantern font on the back. Oh wait, let’s take a closer look, this doesn’t look like my wallet…

Here it is.

Yeah, that’s my wallet. You see, Hot Topic only had two GL wallets. The first one I grabbed was kind of bent up so I grabbed the one behind it, bought it, was driving home, looked at it and then realized I DIDN’T GET MY WALLET CHAIN! Not that I have any real need for a wallet chain mind you (it’s a bit too “hip” for me), but I was gypped nonetheless.

Though this is definitely one of the coolest wallets ever crafted, I have a few minor complaints. It’s not a very comfortable wallet to sit on. In fact, I find myself often taking it out of my back pocket when I’m driving. It’s just too big! I’ve had this wallet for a few months now and I can’t get it to flatten out! I’ve tried sitting on it every which way, the only option left is to sit on it sideways! It just won’t give. This leather is tougher than a two-dollar steak.

Now, maybe that’s a minor quibble. I’m sure over time it will indeed cease to be so bulgy (perhaps a few cycles in the washing machine are in order to soften it up) but the real sore spot is this snap buttons this thing has. Combined with the leather having no give, these snap buttons are like sitting on two pebbles. The gluteus maximus was not meant to sit on such things!
