HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL!

October 31, 2009

And what a beautiful Halloween day it is here in Lansing, Michigan — mid-40s, windy as heck and rainy! Actually, the rain has backed off, but it’s still pretty dreary outside, should be good weather for trick-or-treating tonight.

My plans are a bit different than what I initially imagined for the day, but so far I’ve watched My Bloody Valentine 3D (my thoughts coming on this later today, I hope), then it’s over to Connie’s parents’ house for trick-or-treating, then it’s back home to watch horror movies and eat candy. I bought the 3D edition of Friday the 13th Part 3 when I bought My Bloody Valentine 3D, so I plan on watching that today as well.

I plan on having one more post today. So check back later this evening after you’ve already had your fill of candy. I didn’t get to touch on everything I wanted to this year for Halloween Scream, but there’s always next year, right?

Still moving, still no new posts.

June 22, 2009

Still don’t have a legit post, but I’m hoping to do something involving Transformers tomorrow evening to get in on all the promotion for the new movie opening up on Wednesday.

The move is about 80% complete, I’d say. All the furniture is up except my computer desk. What’s really left is just carrying up a bunch of little things or throwing them out and then a couple of boxes that’ll go into storage. Then of course, cleaning the apartment. It’s only the 22nd and we’ve got until the 30th to have it all wrapped up, so I’d say we’re doing pretty good.

We’re now “living” in the apartment above us, but I’m in the apartment downstairs right now just so I can watch wrestling tonight and surf the net, but tomorrow it’ll all transfer over to our new apartment! I look forward to setting up my command center in a new environment!

Moving…

June 20, 2009

No, not to another URL, but we’re moving to a new apartment. Literally, to apartment right above us.

We have what’s known on the apartment circuit as a “garden view” apartment (AKA – the basement) and despite originally wanting a 2 bedroom apartment, the 1 bedroom right above us was offered up at the same price we’re paying for our current one (apparently, the higher up you are, the more they charge). Same exact square footage and floor plan, just a level up with more sunlight and a balcony. Now we’ll actually be able to leave our windows open at night and not have to worry about prowlers or so many bugs getting in!

Two other major plusses to going up a floor is not having to deal with a smoke filled hallway from the lady across the hall that seems to light up 10 cigarettes at once and then we won’t have to deal with the crazy lady next to us who screams and curses all the time AT NO ONE (well, sometimes her pets) and stomps up and down the hallway throwing temper tantrums. We’re not in a bad neighborhood and the apartment complex is nice, we just have annoying neighbors.

We have until the 30th to be totally switched over, but we started working on moving stuff today and hopefully we can get some stuff done tomorrow evening. It’s really just a lot of little things now that we have to take upstairs. I dread the hundreds of trips we’ll be taking up and down the stairs.

So yeah, I’m slacking off this weekend for posting. I think I’ve done pretty good overall for June though, I haven’t looked at the numbers, but I think it may be one of my most active months of posting.  Should get back in the groove on Monday.

Have a good weekend, folks!

HAPPY EASTER

April 12, 2009

HAPPY EASTER!

And I’m glad it’s finally over. Lemme tell you, it SUCKS working in retail and SUCKS even more when the holidays come around. Then again, in retail, there’s always some forced “event” or holiday to keep us busy and out of stock and the customers angry. Ah, those impatient angry customers– just like the ones I had to deal with yesterday nonstop. Man, were we ever busy! I was really surprised by how little Easter candy we had left. ZERO jelly beans in stock!

Anyway, Easter isn’t all bad when you’re a kid. In fact, it’s pretty sweet. Iit’s kinda like a junior hybrid of Halloween & Christmas: you get some candy, you get a few toys, and then you go to church to learn about God & Jesus.

Back when my sister and I were kids, we got your standard jelly beans, Reese’s Eggs/miniatures, Peeps, bubble bum eggs, Whopper Robin Eggs, chocolate bunnies, SweeTarts and those weird large candy coated eggs that were somewhat fruity flavored but had the texture of a Circus Peanuts. Of course, there was the Easter egg hunt as well. Sometimes performed out in the front yard, but also in the house.

We would also leave out food for the Easter Bunny. Hey, why should Santa get all the snacks? I think that stopped being a family tradition early on in our youth, but I remember leaving jelly beans and carrots for him. There was no other feeling like knowing Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny had visited your house and ate your food than by seeing the “evidence” of nibbled treats and a half empty (half full?) glass of milk the next morning.

As for toys, in my earliest years, I can remember my parents would have an egg with a string attached to it, which when followed, would lead us to our “main” toy for that Easter. Nothing big or fancy like you might see at Christmas, usually for me it was an action figure, but still pretty cool.

I got my first and ONLY Food Fighters figure (Burgerdier General, if you’re nasty) one Easter. Another year, I ended up with a Ghostbusters Peter Venkman figure from their Fright Features series.

All of this, of course, was followed up by church. This always drove me CRAZY. It’s Christmas! It’s Easter! I’ve got TOYS1 I’ve got CANDY! Why do I need to go to church ?!?

There’s no point to any of this. Just rambling about my life. So, how about you? What are your Easter traditions and fond memories?

Happy Birthday to me…

November 1, 2008

Tomorrow’s my birthday! Hitting the big 2-7.

I actually have to work tomorrow (that’s what I get for requesting Halloween off), but it won’t be too bad as it’s a short closing shift. Oh well.

Tonight a nice steak dinner was held in my honor and I made off with Lego Batman for Nintendo Wii and Warner Bros’ “Classic Christmas Favorites” DVD set featuring the original Grinch and some Rankin Bass holiday specials (we’ll be talking about this later).
