I always like to use an exclamation point with my post titles. I don’t know why…
So I’m checking out ABC Family’s website. I don’t do this regularly, in fact, outside of Family Matters and Step By Step reruns, I rarely watch the dang network at all. Does anyone remember when it was simply The Family Channel and they aired Fun House? J.D. Roth was dreamy.
Well, as I was saying, I was perusing the site, but I was only doing it to get the lowdown on their 25 Days of Christmas holiday marathon. I love that they do this. It’s as dependable as AMC’s MonsterFest. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy to know it’ll be there every year for me. Comfort TV rules! I just like to use it as background noise as most of the stuff they show is either A) something I’ve seen a million times before as a kid and probably own or B) some made-for-TV junk I would never actually sit down and watch but because they’re bound to play Christmas songs in it at some point, I’ll keep it on.
Surprisingly, they don’t have a full schedule listing. Only primetime “highlights”. :( Beware, the schedule is in .pdf format.
In truth, what I’m really looking for is some of those classic Rankin/Bass specials. We all know Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Year Without a Santa Claus, The Little Drummer Boy, and Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, but they made a bunch more. Some of which are not YET available on DVD and are out of print on VHS. That’s why God created VCRs because last year a few of these hidden gems were shown during 25 Days of Christmas and I know at least one of’em is being shown again– Pinocchio’s Christmas. I *was* able to watch some of it it last year though, it was pretty good stuff for a Rankin/Bass freak like me.
I didn’t get a chance to record those R/B specials last year because the day they were being shown I was down visiting at my parents’ house for the holidays, but I shant be screwed over again! Hopefully ABC Family will release a full schedule by December 1st.
Maybe those obscure Rankin/Bass specials will be aired as part of the “holiday classics marathon” on Monday, 12/24. I still question the inclusion of the Harry Potter films as a part of the 25 Days of Christmas. First off, they show them ALL the time and second… CHRISTMAS?
FYI – ABC Fam is also showing a mini-holiday marathon chock full o’ Christmas movies that airs from 11/21 to 11/30 called the ‘Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas’. WTF?
