At the risk of being a “food blog”, as some people have accused this blog of being… let’s highlight some of the wonderful snacks that the 1980s brought us– snacks that they should still be making to this very day.
Keebler Krunch Twists
What world do we live in where Krunch Twists could not survive and even thrive? A world I want nothing to do with. I can’t remember if I ever tried the nacho cheese or toasted corn flavors, but I definitely remember the cheddar cheese. It was one of my favorite snacks, but if I’m remembering correctly, Krunch Twists weren’t out for too long.
A few years back, Fritos Flavor Twists were what I thought to be this childhood snack, risen from the ashes like a great phoenix, but I soon realized it was nothing more than trickery from a fuzzy memory. >=(
Keebler Tato Skins
Okay, well, these aren’t really missing, it’s just that Keebler doesn’t make’em anymore. But you know who does make them? T.G.I. Friday’s, and I mean they are EXACTLY the same chips, right down to the flavors (minus “Baked Potato”). Anyway, it’s a nice commercial that I remember and I have brand loyalty to Keebler, so we’re mentioning them.
Keebler Magic Middles
I really didn’t intend to make this an all-Keelber article, but I keep REMEMBERING (and finding on Google). Man, those Magic Middles RULED! I remember my first exposure to them either on a trip to Florida and eating them on the beach or on a trip to some camping ground’s beach/lake hybrid. Either way, it was near a big body of water, put it that way. I remember devouring each one and watching them disappear like a line of coke up Scott Weiland’s nose.
Magic Middles were like a shortbread/sugar cookie with “melty chocolatey filling” inside. Now, I don’t know much about melty chocolatey filling, but I have to say Magic Middles had the best melty chocolatey filling I’ve ever eaten.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza-Crunchabungas
Once again, fuzzy memories played with my head, so I’m still hoping that at least Fritos will give us pizza-flavored Cheetos at some point, because I sure as heck would buy’em.
Nabisco Giggles cookies
Mmm… Fudge & vanilla creme, working in tandem, much like the Black & White Cookie! Look to the Giggles, Elaine, look to the Giggles… My personal preference were the chocolate cookies and I remember being mesmerized by their smiling faces. Looking back in this commercial though, they look kinda sinister. I almost… I almost feel the need to pick up a huge key a run with it. Hm, why is this bringing back memories…
AHH! It’s Phanto from Super Mario Bros. 2! Move along to the next food!
Huh? They still make Tang, you say..? Hm, well, I guess this article is over then, I’m off to the grocery store to get me some Tang! *snicker snicker*
