We interrupt this Halloween season to discuss two items that would be best suited for Christmastime…
Flipz Gingerbread Flavor Covered Pretzels
Picked these up at Walgreens. I like dipped pretzels just as much as anyone but I’m not a consistent eater of them. I usually would prefer pretzels all alone rather than have them dipped in chocolate or whatever. But pretzels covered in a “gingerbread flavored coating” (that’s how it’s listed in the ingredients)? Sure! Let’s try it!
As soon as I opened the bag, there’s a weird scent there. It’s a scent of spices but I wouldn’t necessarily say ginger. In fact, in a weird way, the smell reminds me of those chocolate-dipped orange jelly sticks. But who cares about that odd smell because GINGERBREAD FLAVORED PRETZELS!
They’re actually really good. I’m still getting that weird chocolate orange vibe even with the actual flavor, but definitely detecting gingersnap as well. It’s kinda strange coming up with a gingerbread “flavor coating” to dip your pretzels in, but it works as a novelty.
Is this new to the 2013 holiday season? I don’t recall ever seeing it before and I’m guessing it’s Sprite’s answer to Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash. I also picked this up at Walgreens where they only have 2 liter bottles but a quick look online has shown me that a 12-pack of cans is on the market as well.
There’s a little bit of a cranberry scent but it still mostly smells like regular Sprite. In fact, it still pretty much tastes like regular Sprite and it’s nearly flat. I just bought this and the expiration date is December 23, 2013 and it already tastes flat. Then again, I usually shy away from large bottles of soda for this very reason.
There’s a very tiny hint of cranberry but Sprite’s usual lemon-lime flavor is still the dominating factor here. I feel like this is only a half-hearted attempt to cut into Sierra Mist’s market for cranberry flavored soda. Sprite didn’t even bother to make to give the soda a nice red or pink color, opting to keep it crisp & clear looking. If you slapped the regular Sprite packaging on this and gave it to me to drink, I wouldn’t think anything of it other than it’s a bit flat.
If you need your cranberry soda fix this holiday season, go with Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash.
