Just like Batman, Spider-Man has all kinds of kooky and gimmicky foes. Both characters seem to excel in attraction villains that would fit right in a horror movie or at a Halloween costume party. Here’s a handful of spooky Spider-villains that are dressed for Halloween all year ’round!
Well, might as well start off with the most obvious one! The Green Goblin has been a thorn in Spider-Man’s side since 1964. Variations of the costume have come and gone, as have the characters behind the mask, but the original version seen above (with both Norman and Norman Osborn donning this look) is iconic. Absolutely perfect design for a villain and perfect for Halloween! C’mon, the guy rides a Goblin Glider and throws pumpkin bombs!
Morbius, the Living Vampire
A “tragically flawed protagonist” now, Morbius originally did battle with Spider-Man way back in 1971 and his original costume design (seen above) proves it. Yeah, he’s had some more bad-ass goth-inspired leather outfits since then, but I love this cheesy 1970s look. He looks like he’s wearing Dracula’s pajamas.
The Lobo Brothers
What’s worse than one werewolf? TWO WEREWOLVES. Nothing supernatural about them, the Lobo brothers are mutants from Mexico who came to New York City under the employment of the Kingpin and first did battle with Spider-Man in 1988. Werewolves are cool (even mutant werewolves). I don’t know if these guys have been used recently, but it would be cool to see them return either in Spider-Man or X-Men books.
Yes, both Marvel and DC Comics have two characters named Batwing. They both suck. Marvel’s version came first though and he’s basically similar to the Batman villain Man-Bat in terms of abilities and appearance. The only difference is the origin. Batwing was a victim of some type of toxic spill that mutated him into a humanoid bat. Despite being rejected by his mother and with the attempt to cure him having failed, his run as a villain was short-lived. He is now training as a student at the Avengers Academy.
Mysterio is such a cool villain and he had one of the best ‘one per deck’ cards in the Marvel Overpower card game. Like so many Spider-Man villains, there’s been a few different people under the mask. I don’t really care WHO he is just as long as he’s using the classic suit. I know people make fun of the fishbowl head, but it’s so cool and, well, um… mysterious. Besides, purple & green always go great together. Just ask the Green Goblin, Lex Luthor or the Joker.
The Jackal is a truly creepy looking villain. He’s like an emaciated green Beast. Of course, we all know the horrific things the Jackal did to Spider-Man (and the fans). It’s because of him we had the whole Clone Saga!
