All of these were taken from ads in the 1950s and most came from LIFE magazine.
Aww, look at those loveable little scamps sitting atop of the stairs. But why are they spying on their parents and other guests drinking 7-Up when they have their own bottles?
Man, I’d love to get my hands on that bottle case.
Dutch Masters Cigars
Conflicted about this one. The scene depicted is so peaceful and serene… the artwork is phenomenal, but do you know what ruins it? It’s an ad for cigars! There’s some nice sentiment being said down at the bottom but then they get back to pitching cigars. Perhaps it the store was a toy shop or drug store instead of a tobacco store, I would feel compelled enough to share this one on my Facebook feed or make it my desktop background.
Royal Salted Mixed Nuts
Now here’s a nice ad. Nuts just seem to go with the holidays. Big, roasted, salted, and warm nuts. No jokes, please.
I can’t find any info about the Royal brand of nuts other than it was “another fine product” from Standard Brands Incorporated (which later became Nabisco Brands Incorporated). Squint at the bottom and you’ll see deez nuts are from the very same line that begat Royal brand gelatin & pudding, which is still around and now owned by the Jel Sert Company.
Life Bras by Formfit
A little something for the fathers in the audience. A bit creepy though. Sure, the girl is hot but she looks kind crazy playing so gleefully with a marionette Santa. She’s singing to herself and plotting a murder. I’ll bet anything on it.
Well these don’t look appetizing at all. Both of these have always sounded disgusting to me. Why would I want to eat a bunch of mushed up fruit with nuts and spices? I’ll admit that I’m VERY picky. Most fruits I’m not a fan of. I also have texture issues when it comes to eating. So, yeah, these probably aren’t for me. But how can they be for anyone???
I think both of these were created hundreds of years ago when guests were coming over and all that was left in the kitchen were a bunch of random pantry items. They threw it all in a bowl and made what you see here. Just look at the ingredients. It reads like a list of things that you would find in your kitchen that you were barely use and would always have on hand because you choose to eat the real food first.
