The fourth album (InVader… get it?) from these Finnish rockers features just as much ear candy as the three previous albums had. With this one, I think the band is trying to get a bit heavier but there’s still plenty of cheesy pop rock/metal to go around.
Despite their love for ’80s hair metal, Reckless Love is incredibly good at writing pop songs. That’s always been evident and “Child of the Sun”, “Keep It Up All Night”, and “Scandinavian Girls” are prime examples. If an American producer got a hold of them and helped them with lyrics and their sometimes awkward phrasing, Reckless Love could have a legit career in the U.S. as a pop rock band. Not that I want that, I’m just sayin’.
But it’s not all pop. Reckless Love gets pretty heavy (heavy for Reckless Love) and sleazy on “Bullettime”, while “Pretty Boy Swagger” and “Rock It” sound a bit more modern while still retaining great hooks.
This album was released just in time for summer. Such a great album to have playing in the car with the windows rolled down while enjoying the warmth and the sun. If you want fun, any Reckless Love album is worth the pick-up.
