For All Kings is the second studio release for Anthrax since their re-reunion with Joey Belladonna.
Joey Belladonna has always been the most gifted vocalist of the “Big Four” vocalists and even at 56 years old, he’s killing it. The guy’s voice shows no age, so it’s a shame that he’s been back in the band since 2010 and For All Kings is only the second studio album they’ve released!
As for the music, it’s a natural continuation of Worship Music, and an improvement as well. “You Gotta Believe” starts out the album in classic Anthrax fashion while other highlights “Breathing Lightning”, “Suzerain”, and “This Battle Chose Us” display the band’s great knack for melodies and groove.
The shining star of the album is easily “Blood Eagle Wings” though. A dark, moody track that I can easily see as a song that would’ve fit in perfectly during the John Bush era and on the We’ve Come For You All album.
While the album isn’t a complete knockout, it’s a very good release and shows that Worship Music and the Belladonna reunion is no fluke and the band still has legs when it comes to making new music.
