If you were in elementary school during the 1980s, you may remember these two animated short films: Teeny-Tiny and the Witch-Woman (1980) and What’s Under My Bed? (1989). Both shorts were based on children’s books and were produced Weston Woods Studios who would then distribute the films to schools, public library and on video.
It seems as if Teeny-Tiny and the Witch-Woman was played every Halloween season during my elementary school days. As a book, it doesn’t seem to bad, but the short film was terrifying to me as a child and is still creepy to watch to this day. The performance of the narrator as the witch is something else and still sends a chill down my spine!
What’s Under My Bed? isn’t terrifying at all and I had completely forgotten about it until recently. But once I watched the short, it started to seem familiar. I definitely recognize the artwork involved but I’m not sure if it’s the short or the book itself I’m recalling from my childhood. Regardless, it’s kind of a fun watch.
