If you read the title of my post, it should come as no surprise to you that I have not posted in eight days. As Dusty Rhodes might say, “Ah’m at a croth road, eef you weel”. I’ve lost my drive, my passion and my inspiration for keeping this blog ’80s themed. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the ’80s and there’s no other decade I’d rather live in but I can only do so many food, toy, cartoon and commercial posts without getting bored. There’s thousands of blogs just like this out there and we all keep running in circles talking about the same old (literally!) stuff.
I think maybe I got burned out last year doing so many Halloween and Christmas posts. The funny thing is, as I’ve slacked off on posting this year, my views keep rising each month. March 2010 was my second highest month for views. December 2009 is the tops by far though. I had an obscene amount of visits then that I won’t be touching on a regular basis anytime soon.
Besides, I’m having a heckuva time writing for my music blog Metal Excess. That’s really where I’ve been devoting my time. I’ve got big things poppin’ and little things stoppin’ over there. Of course, just as sure as my posting frequency at The Metal Misfit has fallen, I can pick it up again at any moment’s notice and who knows? Tomorrow may kick off a 17 day posting binge so keep me in your thoughts, prayers and Google Readers.
Okay, we’ve got really cold weather here and snow flurries should be arriving any day now. Plus it’s December 1st and that means it’s time to discuss all things Christmas! That holiday already began slowly creeping into the blog back in November, but now we’re in December, so it’s time to really get this fireplace roaring! As Kevin McAllister would say– this is it, don’t get scared now.
It won’t be all-Christmas, all the time here (I certainly have no plans of doing a Halloween Scream equivalent), but be on the look out for plenty of articles and remembrances of toys, commercials and Christmases of the past. I’m also planning on doing some reviews of Christmas specials and movies (Christmas At Home has kicked things off for reviews).
August 2009 has been the blog’s most viewed month yet, by a comfortable margin! So thank you to everyone who regularly checks in and thank you to those who bother click when my reviews come up in your web searches.
Oh snap! Has it been a year already since I started this little blog?! Time sure has flown by! And what a wonderful year it has been. I’ve been able to enjoy some great bands and make a few new friends along the way, all thanks to my own ramblings and opinions on music.
When I originally started this (inspired by No Life ’til Metal, by the way), it was meant to be a secondary blog where I would talk about music (reserving The Metal Misfit for pretty much anything but music). Metal Excess really wasn’t meant to be that serious of a project, but not only do the monthly & daily hits for this blog continue to rise, but so does my passion for doing this, to the point that I now view Metal Excess as my primary place to write.
So THANK YOU to everyone who comments, to everyone who reads and to every band or label that’s given a darn about this place. In truth, I’d probably still do this even if no one read it (just because I love to write and spew my opinions)… But, all of you have really made this worthwhile and something special.
Well, I have tons of new (and old) albums sitting in front of me right now, so I’ll get back to work on doing what this blog does best!
Thanks to all those out there, whether you stumbled across the blog or are a regular reader, who have taken the time to read my ramblings about music! November was METAL EXCESS’ biggest month yet in terms of traffic!
I was unofficially shooting for an album post everyday this month and thanks to my internet being out yesterday, the streak ended at 27 days. Still, pretty impressive… for me, at least.
I hope to knock one out later tonight before the witching hour, but we’ll see.
Well, I’m doing my 2nd annual Halloween-themed posting with ‘Halloween Scream 2008’ over at my pop culture blog, TheMetalMisfit.com, and I decided to let my music blog partake in the festivities.
So all month long in October, I’ll be looking at the darker, evil side of my album collection. Well, okay, “evil” in a tongue-in-cheek Alice Cooper/Rob Zombie/Misfits kinda way. None of that Norwegian death metal for me, thank you.
Anyway, I’ve got a huge stack of CDs to get through, so barring life getting in the way, I hope to average one themed album post a day, so keep checking back all October!
