I was in Walmart a few days ago and tucked away in the cookie aisle I found Pepperidge Farm’s pumpkin spice Milano and pumpkin cheesecake cookies. Obviously, I had to have them. They’ve become standard for the fall season over the years, but man, it’s so nice to see retailers embracing the season as early as the first week of August.

Came across these the other day when I was browsing Target’s Halloween goodies. They have pumpkin spice as well, but that’s being done to death. I love apple cider. Either cold or hot. I wasn’t sure how apple cider yogurt pretzels would taste, but they’re actually pretty good. Honestly, it’s really more of an apple cinnamon flavor to me, which I guess isn’t wrong since apple cider is basically apples and cinnamon. It gives me flashbacks to those old TMNT graham cookies:
Apple cider or not, it’s still good and better than the typical chocolate/white chocolate yogurt you typically see pretzels covered in. Definitely worth picking up if apple cinnamon is your thing.
New for the upcoming fall season as Cinnamon Apple candies from Hot Tamales. This is genius and I can’t believe we’ve never had this before. Everyone knows Hot Tamales. They’re chewy spicy candy, but throw in some apple flavors as well? Well, it certainly brings to mind cool autumn days and apple pie.
The cinnamon portion is the typical Hot Tamale, while the apple portion perfectly balances out the cinnamon. I liked experimenting with the cinnamon/apple ratio. I think 1 cinnamon candy + 2 apple candies is the perfect formula for me.
Just like the packaging, the candy itself is vibrant. Bright red, bright green. Hey, they could continue to sell this into the Christmas season if they like!
If you’re a fan of Hot Tamales, this is definitely worth picking up. I’ve already bought two boxes and plan to buy more!
Although I’m sure they aren’t good for you at all, I’m a big fan of Lunchables. Yes, I’m in my early 30s and still eat Lunchables. In my defense, I only do it during my breaks at work when I’m short on time. But I still enjoy them and mostly recently I’ve really been eating a lot of the pizza edition.
November 1st.
Halloween is gone, which makes me sad. BUT… now we have Christmas to look forward to and can celebrate the next two months with that in mind. Then it’ll be depression time come January because there’s nothing else to look forward to for like eight months but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
Even though I live in Florida, we’ve had some nice cool weather today. It was 41 degrees when I woke up and not it’s 60 degrees. There’s a nice breeze going and I have the windows open. All that’s left is for me to kick start the holiday season with a seasonal beverage and a Christmas movie, which I plan on doing very soon this.
From today’s purchases, I think I’m off to a good start this holiday season…
Flannel bed-sheets, Swiss Miss dark chocolate cocoa, Starbucks Holiday Blend coffee and instant spiced apple cider. Instant because I have no clue how to make hot cider on my own and I know I don’t have the ingredients to do so.
Oh, and I’m totally making this a thing now:
Be on the lookout for all kinds of Christmas-inspired posts from now until the end of the year! It’s all a part of the first annual A Misfit Christmas!
I’ve also started up a new Tumblr blog that is all about Christmas called Christmasplosion!. You might see some repeat posts but I’m hoping to use Tumblr as a place where I give post much more (shorter) thoughts and photos regarding the holiday season. Be sure to stop by!
Listening to old-time radio shows, I’ve learned that one big tradition for Halloween parties “back in the day” was apple cider and donuts. During the various Halloween episodes of Jack Benny, they almost always make a reference to serving cider & donuts for the gang’s Halloween party. Since I don’t know a place in the area that makes/sells cider donuts (I miss you, Quality Dairy!), this sounds like the next best thing short of dipping the donuts into the cider, which I wasn’t about to do.
After I worked my second job last night (which was insane before trick-or-treating time and then deader than a zombie afterwards), I decided I would do the traditional cider & donuts along with the cliched viewing of Halloween (one of the all-time horror greats). I have to be honest, after an exhausting evening at work, when I got home around 10:45PM, I was struggling to keep my eyes open. I lasted until 11:45 and then went to bed and finished up the rest of the movie this morning while drinking coffee and eating maple bacon! Even though Halloween has come and gone, I plan on watching Halloween II (almost as good as the original) this afternoon on this lazy wet & gloomy but still warm & humid day.
By the way, I picked up the donuts from the way-too-close-to-my-house-for-my-own-good Dunkin Donuts and got old-fashioned cake donuts along with some sugar raised donuts!
And, yes, that is the 25th Anniversary DVD edition of Halloween. I don’t own the 35th Anniversary Blu-ray. :(
I almost didn’t notice these in the store. It’s the same design as the regular peanut brittle sold at Walgreens. The only thing that gave me pause was the fact that they were in the Halloween aisle. They aren’t bad. There’s a mild pumpkin scent and taste to them. I prefer classic peanut brittle over this though. I feel that the peanut brittle formula shouldn’t really be messed with. Unless you can add bacon to it.
OH MY GOD THERE’S BACON PEANUT BRITTLE.
I hate Peeps. Don’t get me wrong. They are cute and adorable. I love that they can be snowmen, bats, cats, chicks, bunnies, pumpkins, hearts, gingerbread men, et cetera, but a marshmallow covered in sugar crystals? Yuck. Even as a kid, that never appealed to me. I think it’s great they come in all different shapes and sizes but there are better things to do with a Peep rather than eat it.
